Rudraprayag: Concerns are being raised after three FIRs were registered against individuals who shared videos and information highlighting alleged mismanagement during the Kedarnath Yatra. According to reports, these individuals had posted reels and content on social media showing overcrowding, lack of proper arrangements, and difficulties faced by pilgrims. However, instead of addressing these issues, police at Sonprayag police station registered FIRs, claiming the content was misleading.
SP Niharika Tomar stated that action was taken to curb the spread of misinformation and ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage. However, critics argue that the videos reflected the ground reality and were meant to bring attention to genuine problems faced by devotees. The social media monitoring cell, which operates round the clock, flagged such content, stating that it could create confusion among pilgrims. But many locals and observers believe that rather than spreading confusion, these posts were exposing gaps in planning and management.
The move has sparked debate over whether the action is aimed at maintaining order or suppressing voices that are pointing out shortcomings in the Char Dham Yatra arrangements. Meanwhile, Authorities deny claims of mismanagement at Kedarnath, stating arrangements are smooth and have indicated that more accounts are under scrutiny.
